Here are ideas/suggestions/topics for future TTCS tech meetings. Add/Submit your own!

Also, let us know if you can present a topic.

  • demo of Xbox 360
  • demo of Playstation 3
  • demo local games eg. cricket.tt
  • demo Nintendo Wii (suggested by Dev T who owns one  )

  • introduction to AJAX
  • installing and using MS Steadystate v2.0 for Windows XP computers in shared environments (suggested by DevT)
  • using the TTCS Wiki
  • preparing for TTCS OSSWIN CD v2.0 - current thinking is to create two CDs and perhaps redo the interface
  • how to use bit torrent technology,  for example, to download the osswin ISO or a linux distro
  • power protection for computers and related equipment e.g. differences between surge surpressors, line conditioners and UPSes

  • demonstration of the All Purpose Windows troubleshooting and upgrading CD
  • demonstration of the All Purpose Windows troubleshooting and upgrading flash drive
  • dual boot windows and ubuntu OR dual boot windows and any other linux distro  - done on Software Freedom Day 2007
  • using opensource apps/utilities to fix windows machines e.g.  specialised  live  linux cds,  apps/utilities that work in windows, command line utils, etc. Inspired by these messages on the ttcs discussion list: http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/ttcs/message/14756  and http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/ttcs/message/14763
  • multimedia authoring in linux e.g. audio cds, video cds, video dvds, etc
  • opensource multimedia tools for windows e.g. for content creation and playback
  • basic linux box to do content filtering, firewalling, etc on a small or medium sized LAN or home network
  • use linux to create a basic internet "appliance"/kiosk for simple web surfing, file downloading and web based email
  • use Wubi to install Ubuntu on an existing Windows machine (suggested by richjob)
  • Standalone education box (live education box, running off of CD, with no hard drive)  Save to CD (suggested by richjob)
  • Bolivarian computing? (might make more sense for a pizza lime discussion, though - rj)
  • Troubleshooting Vista
  • Protecting oneself against social engineering, phishing, scams (yes, I'm suggesting it again.  There are some computer-related twists to these old cons)
  • using a PC to help secure the home using off the shelf-equipment or cheap equipment (suggested by richjob)
  • Using the Drupal Content Management System (install set up, explain some use cases maybe). Depending on the level of IT knowledge of the audience, I can go really in depth of just stay on the surface. Open to ideas. (Suggested by Shivan Jaikaran)
